Flood of 2011
Wild Birds Unlimited of Johnson City was flooded as many other homes and business were on September 8th 2011 from Tropical Storm Lee. Six feet of water was inside the store and over 10 feet in the road in front of the store. On September 12th we started to road back to the opening the store again.
The order of the pictures on this page is from the our first Christmas back to the day of the flood.
When you click on any of these picture, it will take to a gallery that is in chronological order. Newest photos at the end!
We are back in the store and open for the Holidays!!
Progress is being made! We have carpeting in the front room and our counter is in place. Still a number of things to do, but there is defiantly light at the end of the tunnel!!
Birdseed, feeders and hardware for sale!
Johnny's Seed Shack!
The view coming in the front door yesterday (counter was to the right of the opening) with the wallboard and insulation removed to prevent mold and start the rebuilding of the building. We hope to have an announcement next week on our plans. It's been a long 10 days with lots of ups and downs for us and the entire Southern Tier!!
Working our way through the back of the store recovering product for salvage or disposal. We can see some light at the end of the tunnel!!
Debris field debris form the store including all computers, printers, office furniture, displays, counters, tables, etc. Basically everything is being scrapped of expect some products that didn't absorb water. We had to dispose of any bird food product (10,000-12,000 pounds of seed). Had a long three days and went home at 6:30 tonight to launder money, dry out some optics, pictures, etc. Eat supper, wash our VERY smelly clothes from the day!
Well, here is the view a customer would have if they entered WBU JC this morning after the water did it's rearranging of the store. We spent 12 hours there today and have most of the front room cleared. Tomorrow will be the back room and finish front room salvage operations. 9/12/11
Water level has gone down some more, taken on 9/11/11, about 3 ft left! Hopefully will be able to get in to survey the damage tomorrow!

A view of Wild Birds Unlimited most people don't see, the truck dock/delivery entrance. Gives you an idea on the amount of water in the Valley Plaza area. The white rectangle is a set of double doors 36 inches wide by 80 inches tall. looks like currently 6 ft of water in the store! 9/9/11 5:00pm
Water level at Valley Plaza on 9/8/11 at 3:35pm. Wild Birds Unlimited is to the right about 150 feet on the same level.
